As part of CHRC's commitment to health and recovery, the facility became tobacco and smoke-free effective 1 September, 2025. Beginning on that date, the use of all tobacco and vape products was prohibited, including but not limited to:
• Cigarettes
• Cigars
• Pipes
• Smokeless tobacco
• E-cigarettes and vaping devices
This initiative applies to all clients, staff, visitors, volunteers, and contractors on facility property, including indoor and outdoor spaces and parking areas, without exception. We have taken the decision to move in this direction to promote a healthier recovery environment and better long-term outcomes, aligning with evidence-based best practices in substance use treatment and public health.
The CHRC staff team has been trained in an evidence-based smoking cessation programme that has been implemented with current clients, and is available for all incoming clients who use tobacco or vape products. Access to nicotine replacement therapies is available for incoming clients to assist with withdrawal symptoms.
The CHRC team is looking forward to the benefits this change will offer to clients as they take important and courageous steps towards recovery.
